Health Information and Health Sciences Libraries: an International Perspective
The following represents a fraction of the cooperative projects and associations between Health Sciences Information professionals and Health professionals outside the USA.
- European Association for Health Information and Libraries (EAHIL) Based in the Netherlands, EAHIL's mission is "to improve library services to the health professions by cooperation and shared experience across national boundaries."
- The Association for Health Information and Libraries in Africa (AHILA) AHILA aims to:
- improve the provision of up-to-date information to health workers in Africa
- encourage professional development and promote resource-sharing and exchange of experiences among African health information professionals
- promote the development, standardisation, and exchange of national databases of African-produced health literature in the form of an African Index Medicus
- International Network for the Availability of Scientific Publications (INASP) INASP's vision is that all people are able to access and contribute information, ideas and knowledge necessary to drive sustainable and equitable development.
- Health Internetwork (HINARI) The Health InterNetwork Access to Research Initiative (HINARI) provides free or very low cost online access to the major journals in biomedical and related social sciences to local, non-profit institutions in developing countries.
- ICML 9 -- International Congress on Medical Librarianship The 9th World Congress on Health Information and Libraries, Salvador-Bahia, Brazil (September 20-23, 2005)
- AfroAIDSinfo The AfroAIDSinfo project is an Internet portal of the South African Medical Research Council (MRC). The aim of the project is to disseminate important information on HIV/AIDS to researchers, the health profession, the public, infected individuals, educators and policy-makers.
