Services for Visitors

The primary mission of the UW Health Sciences Libraries (HSL) is to support the teaching, research, and clinical activities of its primary clientele - University of Washington faculty, students and staff. Non-affiliated individuals may use self-service resources. Quick reference assistance is available without charge. Non-affiliated individuals may access UW Libraries databases onsite on a first-come, first-served basis. However, first priority is granted to UW clientele.

Self-Service Photocopying  (206)543-3390

Self-service copiers are located in several areas of HSL. All copy machines accept the JAMEX Copy Card that is unique to HSL. There is one copier which accepts dollar bills, coins, and card. Change and copy card sales are available at the HSL Cashier. No change or credit card, check, or budget sales, are available after Cashier's hours. Copy cards can always be purchased with cash from vending machines in the library. Since copy cards are pre-paid debit cards, they are treated as cash. Refunds for unused copies, damaged or lost cards will not be made.

Onsite Borrowing Privileges  (206)543-3390

Anyone, regardless of UW affiliation, is welcome to use materials in the Libraries. However, to check out books, a UW Libraries borrowers' card is needed. UW Libraries borrower's cards are available for some non-UW clientele. Fees may be involved, and specific forms of identification are required. Health professionals and members of the UW Alumni Association may obtain borrower's cards at the HSL Information Desk. Please request details by calling (206) 543-3390, or send an email message to hsl at u.washington.edu. If you are not a member of one of these groups and wish to obtain borrowing privileges, please contact the Suzzallo Library Cashier at (206) 543-1174 to determine your eligibility. The Library Cashier is open Monday - Friday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
