Searching for evidence-based articles related to therapy in PubMed
Library Case 2: Therapy
Mrs. Hernandez is a 55-year old woman suffering from hot flashes and other signs of menopause. Her best friend said she took black cohosh and it had alleviated her symptoms. Mrs. Hernandez wants to know if black cohosh is effective in treating her menopausal symptoms.
example 1- Type keywords in PubMed search box: menopause black cohosh
- Click Limits tab on features bar. Select:
- Language: english
- Humans or Animals: human
- Type of Article: meta-analysis, clinical trial and randomized controlled trial
- Click Go at the top or bottom of the page
- Go to Clinical Queries (accessible from left-hand navigation bar)
- Type search terms in search box: menopause black cohosh and click Go
- Click Limits tab on features bar. Select:
- Language: english
- Humans or Animals: human
- Click Go at the top or bottom of the page
Searching for systematic reviews in PubMed
Library Case 3: Therapy
Mrs Webster comes in for a regular checkup and mentions her concern on her son's cell phone usage. She's read that cell phones can cause brain tumors. You want to find a systematic review that will quickly summarize the evidence on the topic.
example 1- Go to Clinical Queries (accessible from left-hand navigation bar) and go to the 'Find Systematic Reviews' section
- Type search terms in search box: cell phones cancer and click Go
- Click Limits tab on features bar. Select:
- Language: english
- Humans or Animals: human
- Click Go at the top or bottom of the page
- Type keywords in PubMed search box: cell phones cancer systematic review
- Click Limits tab on features bar. Select:
- Language: english
- Humans or Animals: human
- Click Go at the top or bottom of the page
