the NLM search engine that covers Medline, 1966-present in one file.
Same database includes AIDSLINE, BIOETHICSLINE, HEALTHSTAR,
HISTLINE, POPLINE, TOXLINE. Allows complex searches. Creates
"fuzzy logic" searches. Connects to document delivery system and to

- Webspirs: commercial
search system available at the University of Washington. Includes Cinahl (nursing),
ERIC, Current Contents, Web of Science.
- OVID: (http://www.http://www.coalliance.org/databases/hsc/loginhsc.html)
commercial search system available at the UCHSC. Includes Aidsline,
BioethicsLine, CINAHL(nursing), Cochrane, Current Contents, HealthStar, Medline,
PsychInfo.
Databases
MEDLINE: (PubMed)
The National Library of Medicine (NLM) database covering several thousand biomedical
journal, 1966-present, which can be searched using a variety of search engines
available locally (e.g., WebSpirs at UW or Ovid at UCHSC) or via the Web.
Although each search engine looks at the same files, the files may be divided/updated
in various ways.
AGELINE: (use
librarian to access) Database created by AARP and available via Dialog.
AIDSLINE: (PubMed)
NLM produced file, 1980-present, which covers articles derived from various
NLM files, and the meeting abstracts from the International Conferences on AIDS,
and other AIDS-related meetings, conferences and symposia.
CURRENT CONTENTS:
Covers most cited journals in both the biomedical and social science journals.
Very current, but limited number of journals.
DISSERTATION ABSTRACTS:
May be searched via the Web at the UW and UCHSC. Allows orders and
delivery of full dissertaions via the Web.
ERIC: 1966-present,
produced by US Dept. Education. Indexes articles and reports and
includes health and vocational education.
HEALTHLINE: (PubMed)
1975-present. NLM and American Hospital Association produced file
that emphasizes the health care administration and planning aspects of health
care delivery. Includes journal articles (many also in Medline), reports,
meetings, and books.
NTIS: Provides
access to reports that result from federal funding.
NURSING AND ALLIED HEALTH
(aka NAHL or CINAHL): 1982-present. Produced by Loma Linda,
provides coverage in nursing and allied health disciplines. Includes consumer
health, and alternative/complementary therapies. Provides access to health
care books, pamphlets, dissertations, selected conference proceedings, educational
software, and audiovisuals. Full text is available for selected nursing
materials.
PSYCHOLOGICAL ABSTRACTS:
Copyrighted by American Psychological Association, 1967-present.
Indexes articles from over 1,300 journals and includes some technical
reports, books, book chapters and dissertations in the field of psychology.
SOCIOLOGICAL ABSTRACTS:
Abstracts from 2500 journals, meeting reports, dissertations.
WEB of SCIENCE:
Provides access to Science Citation Index and Social Science Citation Index,
which are related to Current Contents.
