University Libraries Triennial Survey
*************************************
On May 1, 2001, a library survey was mailed to all faculty and a
sample
of undergraduate and graduate students. Results from previous surveys
have
been extraordinarily valuable in planning and improving library
programs
and services.
We need to make sure the direction we take in providing resources
and
services to the University community is one which best supports
research,
instructional and learning needs especially given the constraints on
State
and University funding.
Please take 10 minutes or less to complete the survey and return
it
via campus mail by MAY 15
If you have any questions about the survey, please contact the
survey
coordinator, Steve Hiller, at hiller@u.washington.edu or
206-543-5071.
Copies of the survey are
available on the Information Gateway,

NATURE Electronic Access Returning
***********************************
On May 1, 2001 the publisher of Nature removed its self-imposed
three-month delay for institutional subscriptions on the availability
of
all of its online content. As a result of this policy change, the
University of Washington, along with many other institutions, has
agreed
to sign a contract with Nature providing us with access beginning
about
May 17 to the following titles:
Nature
Nature Biotechnology
Nature Cell Biology
Nature Genetics
Nature Immunology
Nature Medicine
Nature Neuroscience
Nature Structural Biology
These titles may be accessed from Healthlinks: Journals
or the UW
Libraries Catalog. Their use is restricted to current UW students,
staff
and faculty as well as walk-in users. Titles no longer require a
password for use.
Access to the Nature Reviews titles (Nature Reviews Genetics,
Nature
Reviews Molecular Cell Biology and Nature Reviews Neuroscience) is
still
under discussion.
The Nature has created an online discussion about the impact of the
web
on the publication of original research. Check it out to see the
variety
of viewpoints.
We would like to hear your comments and concerns.
Please send them to hsl at u.washington.edu .
