Laptop ports are available in all group study rooms except T223, as well as on the pillar near the third floor entrance to the Learning Commons and in the Laptop and Cell Phone Zone on the second floor.
Before Coming to the Health Sciences Library
- You need an Ethernet card installed in your laptop, an Ethernet cable, and a current UW NetID.
- You need to configure your laptop to use DHCP to obtain an IP address automatically.
These ports require an Ethernet card, not a modem. There are no plans to install phone lines on campus for laptops with modems.
In the Health Sciences Library
After completing the steps above, find a free laptop port in the Health Sciences Library.
- Your laptop must be off, not in sleep mode.
- Connect your cable from your laptop to the port.
- Turn on your laptop.
- You are now ready to use a web browser or any other software that requires a network connection.
Laptop ports do not provide access to laser printing or Microlab software.
These are the only ports in the Health Sciences Library that are configured properly for laptop use. Attempting to connect a laptop anywhere else in the library is a violation of University Libraries policies. Please position your laptop so that cords do not pose a safety hazard across walkways.
