Finding Social Work Practice Research

Welcome to finding information for social work practice.  This tutorial will introduce you to the process of locating research information on assessment and intervention. It is intended for students or practitioners who need to develop their research skills.  It assumes that you have a basic knowledge of database searching and some acquaintance with case studies.

Objectives
Upon completion of this self-paced tutorial, you should be able to:

  • Describe and analyze the key elements of a case
  • Construct a well-built search strategy
  • Find research information on assessment or intervention
  • Evaluate and document your findings

Please note: this tutorial is composed of several modules.  Only the intervention module is currently available.  Other modules are under construction.  For more information see contacts below.

How To Use This Tutorial
The intervention tutorial is composed of five topics (or steps).  The topics are listed in a navigation box on the left side of the screen.  We recommend that you go through them in sequence.  However, you may skip, start over, or leave at any time.  Just click on the appropriate link.  The tutorial will give you an overview of the research process as well as an opportunity to practice with your own case.  To begin, choose the "Intervention" link in the navigation box on the left.
