Designating a Default Media Player for Specific File Types (Windows
or Mac)
Anytime a new media player is installed, it is likely that the new
media player will attempt to become the default player for all media
types. Upon installation you may receive a prompt to allow the player
to become the default player. This is normal and it is fine to accept
this change. If, at a later time, you would like to change the file
type settings for a particular player, follow the instructions below.
- For RealPlayer:
Tools > Preferences > Content > Media Types
- For Windows Media Player:
Tools > Options > File Types
- For QuickTime:
Edit > Preferences > QuickTime Preferences > MIME Settings
Note: Some files will
only open with a particular media player. The videos on this site, for
example, will only work with RealPlayer. In order to veiw these
videos, RealOne must be the default player for RealAudio (.ra), and
RealVideo (.rv). Use the procedure outlined above to access RealPlayer's default settings.
