Practice: Labelled and Off-Label Uses
A 35 year old man comes into your walk-in clinic requesting some medication for his hiccups. He has been hiccupping for two days and has tried suggestions from holding his breath to swallowing upside down. He hasn't slept well and is concerned that his work is suffering. He had a previous attack couple of years ago and was prescribed Baclofen which worked but made him very dizzy and lightheaded. You are concerned about his repeated intractable attacks and plan on doing a thorough physical on him, but in the meantime, he needs some relief. Are there any other options available to him?
You think back to your school lectures and know there are other treatments, but what? Where do you look first?
