Practice
The following scenarios are case-based situations that will give you hands-on practice in using a number of different drug information resources. As you work through the scenarios you will also utilize the skills you learned in the previous section. You will formulate and categorize your clinical question, select a specific resource to answer your question, and evaluate the usefulness of that resource in the context of the case.
After you have completed this section, you will be able to describe the informational strengths and weaknesses of each of the resources covered.
How To Proceed
Select a scenario from the list below. Within each scenario, a short case is presented, followed by a list of resources. At least one of the resources offered will help you answer your question satisfactorily. Some answers are better than others. Clicking on the names of the resources will take you to the resources themselves so you can answer the question. Help for using some of the databases is available on the Resources Table. Once you have decided on the best resource to answer the question, click the radio button next to your answer to receive feedback.
The feedback rankings are as follows:
- An excellent choice—this is one of the best resources available for this scenario.
- A good choice—this is a reasonable source of information for this scenario. However, there are other resources that will answer your question more completely or consistently.
- Not a good choice—this resource is not likely to answer this type of question reliably or consistently.
