Old Proxy Service Setup

  1. Link your UW Libraries barcode number to your library record. Your UW Libraries barcode number is the 14 digit number on the back of your Huskycard. This step is unnecessary if you have used the Libraries system, e.g., checked out a book. If your barcode is not already linked, use the online form at www.lib.washington.edu/services/borrow/barcode/bar.html (takes up to three days to process), or call the Information Desk at the Health Sciences Libraries at (206) 543-3390.
  2. Select a PIN. Use the web form at www.lib.washington.edu/services/borrow/pin.html to choose a PIN. If you have questions, or have forgotten your PIN, please contact the Information Desk at (206) 543-3390.
  3. Configure your Web Browser. Follow the three steps of the Proxy Setup Wizard at www.lib.washington.edu/asp/browser/proxy.asp. Use IE4, IE5, or IE6 for Windows, and Mozilla for Macintosh or Windows computers. Mac versions of Internet Explorer do not support proxy configuration. Your browser must support JavaScript and be able to accept cookies.
**If you are attempting to use the UW Libraries Proxy Service from behind a firewall, you may need to contact your network administrator for configuration assistance.

    NOTE:

    • See Known Issues and Bugs for information on specific Internet Service Providers such as Comcast, AOL and MSN, and instructions for IE 5.5 and Netscape 6.
    • Children's Hospital Regional Medical Center computers should be configured as shown in #3 above using this proxy address instead: child/chmcuw.ins
    • At Veterans' Affairs (VA) Hospital do not configure web browser. Click on shortcut to "UW Library" in the Clinical Apps folder on computer desktop.
    • Configuration Assistance for Firewall/Web Cache Administrators
